Google Consent Mode v2, Built Into Katla
Katla sets up Google Consent Mode v2 for you: a denied default before your Google tags run, an update on every choice, Google's banner text, and a report that checks every landing page.
Google Consent Mode v2 is how your Google tags learn what a visitor agreed to. Getting it right takes more than one line of code: the default has to be in place before any Google tag runs, and every choice has to reach Google as an update. Today Katla does all of that for you, on every plan, and checks that it keeps working.
What Katla sets up
Install Katla the usual way and Consent Mode is on:
- A default before your tags run. All four signals start denied, with
wait_for_update, before your Google tag initialises. - An update on every choice, including a returning visitor's stored choice on their first
page view, followed by a
consent_updateevent for Google Tag Manager triggers. - Katla's developer ID from Google's CMP Partner Program.
It works the same with the script tag, the Katla template for Google Tag Manager, Shopify, WordPress and the React SDK, in both basic and advanced mode.
Defaults that follow your banner
One switch, Let Google tags measure where the CCPA banner shows, starts Google tags from granted where the opt-out banner runs, and Google is told the moment a visitor opts out. Regional defaults handle anything more specific.
Google's banner text
Turn on Google's banner text and the banner says that partners, including Google, use the data for personalisation and analytics, with a link to how Google uses data, in every language it supports.
A Consent Mode report for every site
The new Google Consent Mode page in the dashboard checks Consent Mode across your landing
pages after every scan, and whenever you press Check now. When it finds a new gap, we email
your team with the pages and what broke on each. A default that arrives late points you first
at Google tag gateway, the
most common cause. For the page you are working on, add debug=true to the Katla script.
