WHY SHOPIFY SITES STRUGGLE WITH CONSENT
A storefront is twenty apps you did not write, all setting cookies.
THE PROBLEMAdding consent usually means editing theme.liquid, and the next theme update quietly loses it.
WITH KATLAThe app is a theme app extension instead. Enable the app embed once in the theme editor; it is not part of the theme, so theme updates cannot remove it.
THE PROBLEMNobody knows which cookies the storefront actually sets, so the cookie policy is a template somebody adapted once.
WITH KATLAKatla scans the storefront and lists every cookie it finds, with a category, a provider and a description, then writes the policy from that list.

- Install the appThe embedded Katla app appears in your Shopify admin. Billing runs through Shopify.

Nothing to pasteThe Site ID is written to an app metafield when you connect. The app has no Site ID field on purpose: a mistyped one means no banner at all.
Theme-update safeA theme app extension, not a snippet in theme.liquid. Switch it on once and a theme update cannot take it away.
Follows the storefront languageBoth blocks pass the storefront locale through, so the banner and the generated policy render in the language the visitor is browsing in. Thirteen are supported.
Billed through ShopifyPlan selection, proration and cancellation all happen on Shopify's hosted plan page, and the charge lands on your Shopify invoice.
Consent Mode v2 and GTMGA4 and Google Ads get all four signals, denied by default. Existing GTM triggers read the same decision from window.dataLayer.

Questions Shopify teams ask
- When can I install the Shopify app?
- It is built and waiting for its listing in the Shopify App Store. Until then, add Katla to your storefront from a Google Tag Manager container or with the widget snippet in your theme, and switch to the app when it is listed.
- Will I have to edit theme code?
- Not with the app. Installing it, connecting your Katla account and switching on one toggle in the theme editor is the whole setup. The Liquid blocks read the Site ID themselves.
- How will it be billed?
- Through Shopify. Plans are chosen on Shopify's hosted plan page and the charge appears on your Shopify invoice. The Katla app renders no prices and no checkout of its own.
- What happens if I uninstall?
- The Shopify subscription ends and the team falls back to the free plan. The store stays linked, so a reinstall picks up where it left off, and your consent records are kept: they are your evidence that consent was given.
- Will the banner speak my customers' language?
- Yes. Both theme blocks pass the storefront locale to Katla, and the banner, the cookie descriptions and the generated policy all follow it across 13 languages.
